The funeral of Mr Raymond Fred Popeley took place at the parish church on Christmas Eve, followed by cremation at Peterborough. Ray ran R F Popeley's general store, which sold everything that was ever made under the sun. Everyone in the village and beyond knew Ray and knew him for his helpfulness, friendliness and service. Mrs Lilian Brigden took the church service, at the end of which, Mr Brian Payne gave a short address which summed up Ray and the affection in which he has been held by all who came into contact with him. In short, Ray was a true servant of the community and we are all the richer for his life and having known him
