12/07/2010 - The July edition of Village Voices is now available

About This Site

The current site you have been visiting is the the fourth incarnation of a web resource which was first published in August of 2001.

The site was compiled by two local men who wanted to make available to those who lived in the village, those who used to live in the village or those who had family connections and also for those who were interested in the village, its history and associated village communities.

From time to time, the continuity of the site has been generously supported by both a local charity and the Parish Council, to whom we are indebted.

Mrs Olga Hannah Garner

This site was originally set-up and funded by a gift from the late Mrs Olga Garner who lived for over sixty years in Willock Lane, a lane she loved dearly.

Olga was born in Guyhirn and lived there with her five brothers until the age of 19. She was the granddaughter of William Weston of Guyhirn who was one of the first Wisbech St Mary parish councillors.

On leaving Guyhirn, she went with her late husband, Stan, moving into their home in Willock. She was a devoted wife, and a mother to Patrick, Daphne, Christine, Valerie and Teresa.

Olga was a very wise and single-minded woman who loved Wisbech St Mary, it's people, its church and above all her family. A great loss was felt on her death on November 22nd 2000. It was not only the loss of a mother and friend but of a mine of knowledge about Wisbech St Mary and this world in which we all inhabit.

We are indebted indeed for this generous gift, a fitting and lasting tribute to Olga's memory
